Iconic British skater Blondey teams up with Adidas Skateboarding to release a new short film covering his first-ever design of the Adidas Superstar 80s silhouette entitled FREEDOM NINETEEN. The film follows McCoy’s journey throughout 2019, filmed by Austin Bristow on spots in Milan, Rome, Moscow, Monaco, and London, opening with Blondey’s grandmother unboxing a pair of the see-through shoe and admiring them and feeling proud for her grandson.

McCoy wrote on Instagram: “It’s been my dream since I was a child to have my name on a piece of skateboarding equipment. For that dream to have been made real, for that piece of equipment to be an Adidas Superstar, and for me to not only have been given the opportunity design it but also to creatively direct the entire project that surrounds it, still doesn’t feel quite real to me.”

Watch the clip below for The Blondey x adidas Superstar 80s below, which are currently sold out on Adidas’s website, but available via other select retailers.

FREEDOM NINETEEN The new happiest moment of my life occurred at 2:57 this morning, when I received an email telling me that the song I’ve been after (a song to which there was simply no alternative) had been cleared, and that the film that’s production has been at the forefront of my mind for the past six months had been uploaded onto the Adidas YouTube channel, ready to be made public five hours later. It’s been my dream since I was a child to have my name on a piece of skateboarding equipment. For that dream to have been made real, for that piece of equipment to be an Adidas Superstar, and for me to not only have been given the opportunity design it, but also to creatively direct the entire project that surrounds it, still doesn’t feel quite real to me. This feeling of total disbelief might be slightly accentuated by the fact that I’ve accumulated a grand total of five minutes sleep since we started editing the film a few weeks ago. I’m very happy to say that the shoes came out and sold out this morning on THAMES, and that FREEDOM NINETEEN is now watchable at the link in my bio. I can’t conjure quite the right words to convey the love and gratitude I feel, not only for those who put their trust in me for this project at Adidas, but for everybody who supports me in anyway and keeps making projects like this possible. Perhaps the strangest aspect of it all is that, until now, everything has been training – the twenties are nearly upon us, and they belong to @THAMES.
