Jake Gyllenhaal celebrated 20 years since the release of Donnie Darko, the “film that changed [his] life and [his] career” on Instagram. He paid tribute to the movie on Instagram with a series of Instagram posts, showcasing never-before-seen images of the original script and other film moments.

The Richard Kelly-directed movie had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001. It starred Jake as well as his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and other big names such as Drew Berrymore, Jena Malone and Patrick Swayze.

“Pulled out my script and some artifacts from Donnie Darko…It was released 20 years ago today.” He describes the filming experience “unreal”, especially being able “to watch this story find afterlives with a new audience”.
