Porky Hefer’s Molecules is a new collection of leather hanging pods by the artist, on display at Design Miami 2019, presented by Cape Town-based gallery Souther Guild. 

It is a collection of three suspended orbs that represent and bear the titles of the three chemical compounds: dihydrogen monoxide, fluoroheliate monoxide, and hydrogen difluoride, colored in international color codes atoms are known by – white for hydrogen, red for oxygen, green for chlorine. Masterfully crafted by the leather artisans at Wolf & Maiden in Cape Town, the orbs feature plush sheepskin inside.

The project tries to depict the complexity of human relationships to the natural world and between each other, as well as the idea of molecules being made up of atoms held together by chemical bonds that form as a result of the sharing or exchange of electrons. Check Molecules below.
