Art dealer David Zwirner is organizing an online-only sale of artworks titled Artists for Biden to raise money for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden with over 100 artists and estates already teamed up. The Biden Victory Fund will see the fundraiser benefit Joe Biden and Democratic vice presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, over their Republican opponents, Donald Trump and Mike Pence. With less than two months before the 2020 U.S. presidential election occurs, there’s a lot of anticipation and responsibility for 331 million people stateside to elect their next president and vice president.

Among other artists, the notable contributors to the fundraiser include Carol Bove, Cecily Brown, Sam Gilliam, Jenny Holzer, KAWS, Ed Ruscha, Tavares Strachan, Carrie Mae Weems, and Kehinde Wiley. The sale does not only spotlight artists from Zwirner, but those represented by Gladstone, Lehmann Maupin, and Marian Goodman Gallery. The Artists for Biden will help provide resources needed to elect Biden and Harris to the White House with all of the proceeds from the sale, as well as support other Democrats across the country in the weeks leading up to Election Day on November 3.

“The campaign was excited to do an art-world fundraiser. This is a historic election, nobody will argue with that. Artists are extremely excited by this, hence the very generous outpouring of donations,” David Zwirner told Artnet News. “Nobody is in the limelight here—it’s really the art world that’s featured, and how generous it can be and how united it can be.

Should galleries be political? I think they have to be at certain points because artists are political,” David Zwirner said. “I have a lot of great collectors who are certainly Republican, and I hope they won’t hold this against me!”

The sale will run through October 2-8 on the Platform website, an official standalone website and initiative developed by Zwirner, whose launch is occurring at the same time as the sale, to host online sales for affiliated partners with a preview day on October 1.
